Rare, heavy-duty, vintage drawer glides, made by "Sun Metal," of King, NC sometime during the first half of the previous century. They are made of steel and have a cool patina (surface rust).
Our carpenter was asked to take a look at a huge, old desk that had been stored in garage for years, and he deemed that the desk was beyond repair. However, he couldn't just let them throw out the desk without first salvaging the precious hardware that the desk was equipped with.
They don't make glides like this anymore! Solid steel (no plastic or rubber), heavy!, and with a 27" extension. I'm not sure of its load bearing capacity, but I'm sure it's double what anything built today of similar size could handle.
Aside from the light, surface rust; these glides are in excellent condition. No breaks, cracks, chips, dents, bends, etc. The slide easily and smoothly, and we didn't even lubricate them. The are ready for another lifetime of service.
